Future Roots
Traditional meets electronic
Future Roots bridges the ancient and the modern, documenting how traditional music practices evolve through encounters with electronic production tools. The project takes the form of a documentary series, field recordings, and collaborative compositions that bring together musicians from vastly different traditions.
The first season travels from the highlands of Peru to the Sahel region of West Africa, from the rainforests of Indonesia to the fjords of Norway. In each location, local musicians are paired with electronic producers to create hybrid works that honor tradition while embracing innovation.
All recordings are made using a combination of location-specific microphones and portable synthesizers, capturing both the acoustic environments and the spontaneous creative processes. The resulting archive is a testament to music's ability to transcend cultural and technological boundaries.
